I was hit with the need to draw Keiko and Henry from “the Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” today. The story takes place during WWII when Japanese Americans were being forced into internment camps. Asian Americans wore pins distinguishing their heritage so as not to be mistaken for Japanese. Keiko wasn’t just Japanese, though. She was an American, and believed she should be treated as such. I definitely recommend reading this novel!
